Quick Decision Framework#
Short Answer
A verified XM profile means a foreign company accepted your identity documents. It does not mean Bangladesh Bank permitted an outward remittance, and it does not mean the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission licensed that company. The legal test sits in the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947 and in Bangladesh Bank's remittance instructions, which we explain in Best Forex Brokers in Bangladesh 2026.
Detailed Explanation
Section 4 of FERA restricts buying, borrowing, selling, lending or exchanging foreign exchange, other than through an authorised dealer, unless Bangladesh Bank has given permission. Outward payments run through authorised-dealer banks for declared, permitted purposes under the Guidelines for Foreign Exchange Transactions. We found no published general category that authorises residents to fund leveraged retail forex or CFD accounts abroad.
BSEC licenses capital-market intermediaries for securities. That remit is not a retail offshore CFD register. A CySEC, DFSA, FSCA, FSC Belize, FSA Seychelles or CMA Kenya badge on an XM page supervises the named foreign company in that foreign country. It does not rewrite FERA.
Example
A resident in Dhaka uploads a national ID, passes XM's identity check, and then sees bKash on the cashier. The green verification tick answers only the broker's question: "Do these documents match this person?" It does not answer Bangladesh Bank's question: "Is this outward purpose permitted?"
Common Mistake
Treating a successful wallet payment as legal clearance. A payment can settle technically and still sit outside the declared purpose an authorised dealer is allowed to process.
Professional Tip
Before any taka leaves an account, ask the authorised-dealer bank in writing whether that beneficiary and purpose are allowed. Keep the reply with the Client Agreement. Use the broker brand versus legal entity checklist so the company name, not the logo, is what you file.
What XM verification changes — and what it leaves untouched#
Short Answer
Verification changes your status inside that broker's system. It leaves FERA, tax records and investor protection unchanged.
Detailed Explanation
| Question | What a completed XM KYC file shows | What it does not show |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | The foreign firm accepted the ID and address pack it asked for | That Bangladesh Bank authorised the payment |
| Entity | You can read a company name if you open the agreement | That this company holds a BSEC or Bangladesh Bank licence |
| Cashier | Some rails may appear for your profile | That bKash, Nagad or a card is a permitted remittance purpose |
| Foreign licence | The named company may be supervised abroad | A local compensation scheme or a local court path |
| Bonus banners | A promotion may be displayed | Cash you can withdraw, or permission to fund |
XM publishes group regulation notes on its regulation page. Read the entity in your own agreement. Do not assume a Kenyan, Cypriot or Belize company is the one on your contract.
Example
Two cousins verify on the same day. One agreement names an offshore XM company; the other names a different group company because the referral link differed. Both see the same brand. Only the PDF tells them which regulator, if any, is relevant to that contract — and neither PDF is a Bangladesh authorisation.
Common Mistake
Sending a screenshot of a foreign licence to a bank officer as if it were a Bangladesh Bank approval code.
Professional Tip
If you want onshore market exposure, start with BSEC-supervised securities channels and with bank foreign exchange for a documented purpose, not with an offshore margin app. How to choose a reliable forex broker is the method; it is not a workaround.
Payments: bKash, banks, cards and the virtual-asset ban#
Short Answer
Do not infer a lawful deposit route from a logo. Virtual assets are a separate prohibition, not a side door.
Detailed Explanation
FE Circular No. 24 of 15 September 2022 tells banks that virtual assets are not a permitted dealing. Using a coin, an informal agent or a relative's account to reach a broker breaks the purpose rules and the broker's own same-name funding rules.
| Rail people ask about | How to treat it |
|---|---|
| bKash, Nagad, Rocket | A displayed wallet is not Bangladesh Bank permission |
| Authorised-dealer transfer | The bank must accept the beneficiary and the declared purpose |
| International card | Card acceptance is a network message, not an FX permission |
| Another person's account | Third-party funding fails both bank purpose rules and broker AML rules |
| Crypto or informal hawala-style cash | Not a compliant substitute |
National Board of Revenue materials we reviewed do not map individual offshore CFD gains to a clear public FAQ. Keep statements and ask a Bangladesh tax adviser if money has already moved. This page is not tax advice.
Example
A promoter offers to "load your XM from my bKash and you pay me cash in Dhaka." That splits the identity on the broker account from the identity on the payment. If the broker later freezes the account, you have no clean trail. If the bank later asks for purpose, the cash handover is not a defence.
Common Mistake
Describing a trading deposit to the bank as family support or travel. Misstating purpose is a compliance failure even when the amount looks small.
Professional Tip
Read forex scam warning signs before you answer a Telegram account manager. No manager needs your password or a cash handover.
Clock time if you are only studying the market#
Short Answer
Bangladesh is UTC+6 all year, with a Friday–Saturday weekend. The wholesale FX week still follows the global Friday close.
Detailed Explanation
These windows use UK/US standard time. When London and New York are on daylight saving, shift the local clock one hour earlier.
| Window | Bangladesh time (UK/US winter) | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo / Asia | About 05:00–14:00 | Quieter majors; more relevant to yen and Australian dollar |
| London | About 14:00–23:00 | Main move in euro and sterling |
| London–New York overlap | About 19:00–23:00 | Tightest spreads in a typical week |
| Friday close | Late evening into Saturday | Weekend gap risk if a position is left open |
The overlap falls in the evening, which is why Dhaka office workers often look at prices after work. Looking is not funding. Session mechanics are in forex market hours.
Example
A 0.10 standard lot of EUR/USD is about 10,000 currency units. A 50-pip adverse move is roughly 50 US dollars, before spread. On a small balance that is a large percentage. The lot size calculator shows the arithmetic; it does not make the remittance lawful.
Common Mistake
Trading Friday evening Bangladesh time without noticing that the global market is heading into the weekend close.
Professional Tip
If you practise, use a demo until an authorised dealer has answered the purpose question. Demo prices do not require an outward remittance.
Checklist before any payment#
- Open the Client Agreement and write down the legal company, not the brand.
- Compare that company with the foreign register named in the agreement. Start from Is XM safe? A regulation review.
- Ask an authorised-dealer bank, in writing, about that beneficiary and purpose.
- Do not use bKash, Nagad, a card, crypto or a third party until that answer exists.
- Do not treat a bonus banner as withdrawable cash. Read how XM bonuses actually work.
Glossary#
- FERA: The Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947, the statute that limits who may deal in foreign exchange in Bangladesh.
- Authorised dealer: A bank Bangladesh Bank allows to handle foreign-exchange transactions for permitted purposes.
- BSEC: The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, supervisor of the domestic capital market.
- KYC: The broker's identity check. It is not a local regulatory licence.
- BST in this article: Bangladesh Standard Time, UTC+6, not British Summer Time.
Risk warning: Leveraged forex and CFDs can wipe out a deposit quickly. A foreign licence does not create Bangladesh authorisation and does not insure trading losses. This article is educational. It is not investment, legal or tax advice.
Next step: stay with the country hub, Best Forex Brokers in Bangladesh 2026, and the entity checklist. Do not fund an offshore account on the strength of a verified profile.
