We multiply the live XAU/USD spot price (per troy ounce, refreshed hourly) by the country's USD-to-local-currency exchange rate (also refreshed hourly), then divide by 31.1035 grams per troy ounce. The result is multiplied by 0.9999 (24K), 0.9167 (22K), 0.875 (21K), 0.75 (18K), or 0.5833 (14K) to derive the karat-specific gram price.

Two reasons. First, jewellery shops add a 'making charge' on top of the metal cost — typically 8–25% in the Gulf states, 5–15% in Egypt and Türkiye, 10–18% in India. Second, retail prices include local VAT/sales tax (5% in UAE/KSA, 14% in Egypt). Our prices are pure-metal spot equivalents, suitable for understanding the underlying market — not for comparison shopping at a jewellery counter.

Karat measures purity in 24ths. 24K is 99.99% pure gold (bullion grade — soft, expensive, used for investment bars and coins). 22K (91.67% gold) is the most common jewellery grade in the GCC and Asia. 21K (87.5%) is widespread in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. 18K (75%) is the Western jewellery standard. 14K (58.33%) dominates the US mass-market jewellery space because it's harder and cheaper.

Our XAU/USD spot price refreshes every 60 minutes from the FCS API (with Binance PAXG-USD as a free-tier fallback). The local-currency FX rates also refresh hourly. So in practice, the gold prices you see across the site are at most one hour old — comparable to most public retail-bank gold pages but free of paywalls and registration walls.

Yes — XAU/USD is one of the most popular CFD instruments worldwide, available on every regulated retail forex broker (XM, HFM, Pepperstone, FXTM, etc.). You can go long or short with leverage. Note: CFD gold is a derivative, not physical bullion — you don't take delivery of metal. For physical investment, look at allocated-storage vault programmes (BullionVault, Royal Mint, Perth Mint) or sovereign-mint coin programmes.

Three factors: (1) Central banks bought 1,100+ tonnes in 2024 and continued buying in 2025 — a structural shift away from dollar reserves. (2) The Fed delivered three rate cuts in early 2026, dropping real yields below 1% and removing the headwind that suppresses gold during high-rate cycles. (3) Geopolitical risk premia (Middle East, Russia/Ukraine, Taiwan Strait) plus Trump-era tariff uncertainty kept safe-haven demand elevated. See our 'Why is gold rising? 2026 analysis' on the blog for the full breakdown.
