- The Central Bank of Bahrain is the only financial regulator, so a Bahrain licence claim can be tested on one register
- Dealing in currency CFDs as principal needs a Category 1 investment firm licence or a bank licence
- A completed XM identity check is the foreign firm's file, not a CBB permitted activity
- Resolution No. 16 of 2012 restricts marketing financial services in Bahrain without permission
- The dinar peg at 0.376 per US dollar stabilises conversion, not the trade
- Fawri+ and Benefit move money inside Bahrain; a request to pay a person is a stop

Quick Decision Framework#
Short Answer
A green "verified" badge inside XM is not an entry on the Central Bank of Bahrain Register. The country record is Best Forex Brokers in Bahrain 2026.
Detailed Explanation
Bahrain has one financial regulator. There is no second free-zone register. Volume 4 of the CBB Rulebook treats contracts for differences on a currency as financial instruments. Dealing in them as principal, which is what a market-maker CFD firm does, is reserved for a Category 1 investment firm or a licensed bank.
The Bahrain hub, checked on 28 September 2026, found no CBB rule that makes it an offence for a resident merely to hold an account abroad, and it found no clear official text on reverse solicitation. That gap is not a Category 1 licence. If the agreement names a foreign company, CBB conduct rules and the CBB complaint form do not cover that contract.
Example
A reader in Manama finishes KYC, then receives a CySEC certificate by email. The certificate names a Cypriot firm and its own clients. It does not show a permitted activity on cbb.gov.bh.
Common Mistake
Treating a Manama phone number, an Arabic landing page or a seminar in Seef as proof of a CBB licence.
Professional Tip
Copy the company name with the entity checklist and search only that string in the Licensing Directory.
Category, marketing and the complaint that will not open#
Short Answer
Category 3 is not Category 1. Marketing without permission is a separate breach from a missing dealing licence.
Detailed Explanation
| Check | What passes | What fails |
|---|---|---|
| Register name | Exact legal entity from the agreement | A brand, a domain or a similar spelling |
| Activity | Dealing in financial instruments as principal, or a bank licence that covers it | Category 3 arranging or advising only |
| Marketing | CBB permission where the rule requires it | A local agent, paid seminar or targeted ad with no permission |
| Complaint | CBB route only if that entity is the licensee | A foreign agreement that points you abroad |
| Wealth label | A real CBB classification at a CBB firm | An in-app toggle that says "professional" |
Rule AU-1.1.1 in Volume 4 bars unlicensed investment services within or from Bahrain, false licence claims, and marketing without a licence, an exemption or written permission. Resolution No. 16 of 2012 is the marketing instrument. Direct solicitation of clients in Bahrain is one of the tests for activity "within or from" Bahrain.
The CBB's expert-investor test, for its own licensees, uses a net-worth figure of at least 100,000 US dollars, excluding the main home, and a higher accredited-investor test. Signing away retail status at a foreign firm does not recreate those CBB protections, and it does not create them either.
Example
An Instagram account in Arabic offers a signal group and says a local contact will "help with the deposit." That pattern is marketing in Bahrain. A verified profile does not license the promoter.
Common Mistake
Filing a loss complaint with the CBB about a contract whose only named company is overseas.
Professional Tip
Read Is XM safe? A regulation review for how CySEC, DFSA, FSCA, Belize, Seychelles and CMA Kenya entities differ. None of those names is a Bahrain category.
Dinars, the peg and Benefit#
Short Answer
The peg makes BHD and USD conversion predictable. It does not make the position safer, and a Fawri+ payment to a person is the wrong rail.
Detailed Explanation
The CBB describes the dinar as fixed at 0.376 per US dollar, a rate effectively unchanged for decades, with Decree No. 48 of 2001 fixing 1 dinar as 2.659 dollars. Banks deal with the CBB near that rate. Your EUR/USD or gold CFD still moves.
The BENEFIT Company runs Fawri+ and related domestic transfers. Those rails move money between accounts in Bahrain. An overseas broker's cashier, if a bank will even process it, is a different payment. We have not verified any Bahraini bank's policy on transfers to trading firms. Ask yours in writing, and expect a refusal.
| Stop | Why |
|---|---|
| Cousin pays by Fawri+ and you reimburse in cash | Third-party funding fails ordinary AML checks |
| Agent quotes a "BHD rate" outside your bank | The peg is a central-bank rate, not a private cashier |
| Bonus credited before any register check | A bonus is a contract term, not a CBB activity |
| Swap-free badge | Not an AAOIFI ruling and not a Category 1 licence |
Example
Someone offers to receive 200 dinars by Fawri+ and to "load dollars" on XM. Your name is on the KYC file. Their name is on the domestic transfer. If the broker reverses the credit, the dinars are already gone.
Common Mistake
Sizing a first trade as if the peg removed volatility. On a standard-lot quote, 0.10 of EUR/USD is about 10,000 units of the base currency, near one dollar per pip before the spread. Fifty pips is about fifty dollars. The peg does not shrink that.
Professional Tip
Use the lot size calculator on a demo. Demo mode does not move dinars. If you later need the fee that replaces swap, read what replaces swap on Islamic accounts.
Local clock#
Short Answer
Bahrain stays on UTC+3. Friday is a local weekend day and a full global trading day.
Detailed Explanation
In UK and US winter, the London–New York overlap is about 16:00–20:00 in Manama. During UK and US summer, subtract one hour. The two regions do not change clocks on the same date, so a couple of weeks each year sit in between.
Sunday is a working day in Bahrain. The wholesale FX week usually opens only late Sunday night or early Monday, Bahrain time, and prices can gap. See weekend gap risk.
Example
US labour data often lands on a Friday afternoon in Manama, when many residents are off. That is a study window. It is not a reason to fund an account that failed the Register test.
Common Mistake
Leaving a large gold position through the weekend because Sunday feels like a business day.
Professional Tip
Session tables are in market hours and slippage. If the Register search fails, the table is education only.
Checklist#
- Copy the legal entity from the agreement.
- Search it on the CBB Licensing Directory and note the category.
- If it is missing, CBB complaints do not cover the account.
- Refuse Fawri+ or Benefit payments to a person.
- Ask your own bank, in writing, before any card or wire.
- Treat swap-free and bonuses as fee terms. Read negative balance protection before any live size.
Glossary#
- CBB Register: the public list of licensed institutions and their permitted activities.
- Category 1: the investment-firm category that may deal in financial instruments as principal.
- Resolution No. 16 of 2012: the marketing restriction for financial services in Bahrain.
- BHD peg: 0.376 dinars per US dollar, a conversion fact, not a trading edge.
- Fawri+: a domestic near-instant transfer. It is not a broker licence.
Risk warning: CFDs and leveraged forex can lose the entire deposit. A foreign licence does not bring CBB conduct rules with it. This article is not legal, tax or religious advice.
Next step: read Best Forex Brokers in Bahrain 2026 and keep any payment on hold until the company in the agreement appears on the CBB Register with a dealing permission, or you have decided not to proceed.
