- Both deserve matched MetaTrader cost checks
- IC Markets adds a published cTrader route
- Starting spreads are not averages
- Entity terms override brand comparisons

Method and Evidence Limits#
Short answer: This is desk research, not a live-account test. The source snapshot was last verified on 31 July 2026. ForexTradeLab did not open matched accounts, measure spreads, test fills or time withdrawals for this comparison.
Evidence rule: Treat a broker fact as applicable only when the current onboarding flow, client agreement and official entity page all match your country. “From” pricing is not an average. Where this page lacks matched live evidence, it says so instead of ranking the brokers.
Quick Verdict#
This is the closest comparison here for cost-conscious MetaTrader users. IC Markets differentiates through a broader published platform choice that includes cTrader; Tickmill belongs on the shortlist when a leaner MetaTrader-centred setup is preferred. Without matched live observations, there is no defensible spread or execution winner.
Legal Entity and Regulation#
Short answer: Compare the companies that would actually hold the two accounts, not the brands' combined licence lists.
Both brands route clients through regional companies, so similar platform screens do not imply similar legal protection. The IC Markets global source identifies Raw Trading Ltd under Seychelles FSA. This update did not complete a country-by-country Tickmill entity map. Match each onboarding company to its official register and do not borrow the protections of another group subsidiary.
Common mistake: Assuming a regulator named elsewhere on a group website protects the account offered in your country.
Professional tip: Save the dated agreement and regulator entry shown during each application before funding.
Pricing and Account Model#
Both brokers are commonly researched for commission-based trading, making unlike-for-like account comparisons especially misleading. Compare the same MetaTrader symbol, account currency, lot size and session. Add both sides of commission, swaps and conversion. Published starting spreads are not averages, and this page has no live dataset to rank either broker.
Example: A lower displayed spread can still produce a higher holding-period cost after commission, financing or currency conversion. Only matched observations can resolve that for your strategy.
Platform and Workflow#
MetaTrader users can compare the pair without necessarily changing their core workflow. The sharper distinction is that IC Markets also publishes cTrader and other routes. A cTrader dependency can remove Tickmill from the shortlist; a trader who wants a focused MT4/MT5 workflow may not benefit from IC Markets' extra choice.
Common mistake: Treating more platforms—or a simpler proprietary app—as evidence of better fills.
Beginner Fit#
Neither raw-account proposition should be treated as beginner-friendly merely because entry costs appear low. Beginners should compare the Standard-style options, order sizing, education and support, then learn how commission changes break-even distance before selecting a Raw account.
Active-Trader Fit#
An active MetaTrader trader should run matched demos and, if proceeding, minimum-size live observations. Log spreads during the actual session, rejected or slipped orders, swap entries and statement clarity. The review did not perform that test, so it cannot turn marketing minima into a winner.
Pair-Specific Decision Example#
A cTrader algorithm user has a concrete reason to start with IC Markets. A MetaTrader trader who values a narrower product decision can investigate Tickmill, but should require an entity match and a full fee schedule. A scalper should delay any conclusion until personally collected all-in costs are comparable.
Risk and Decision Checklist#
- Identify both contracting companies and verify them on official registers.
- Confirm the exact account, platform, symbol and payment route.
- Compare the same trade size and session, including commission, financing, conversion and possible slippage.
- Practise on demo, then use minimum live size if you proceed.
- Test a small withdrawal before increasing capital.
Risk warning: Forex and CFDs are leveraged products that can cause rapid losses. Slippage can occur, stops are not guaranteed, and regulation does not remove market, broker or insolvency risk. Never trade money you cannot afford to lose.

Final Verdict#
Choose IC Markets only if its entity, pricing model and platform solve your specific workflow. Choose Tickmill only if its corresponding entity and product solve it better. This review does not supply live evidence for a universal winner.
