- IC Markets suits Raw and automation workflows
- AvaTrade merits review for its app-led journey
- Copy trading does not remove risk
- No live cost winner is established

Method and Evidence Limits#
Short answer: This is desk research, not a live-account test. The source snapshot was last verified on 31 July 2026. ForexTradeLab did not open matched accounts, measure spreads, test fills or time withdrawals for this comparison.
Evidence rule: Treat a broker fact as applicable only when the current onboarding flow, client agreement and official entity page all match your country. “From” pricing is not an average. Where this page lacks matched live evidence, it says so instead of ranking the brokers.
Quick Verdict#
IC Markets is the more natural fit for traders building around Raw pricing, cTrader or portable MetaTrader automation. AvaTrade is the more relevant candidate for a broker-designed app, education and the copy/social or risk-management tools available in the reader's region. The pair serves different workflows more than it offers a simple price contest.
Legal Entity and Regulation#
Short answer: Compare the companies that would actually hold the two accounts, not the brands' combined licence lists.
Both groups use regional legal companies. The IC Markets global source identifies Raw Trading Ltd under Seychelles FSA, but that is not every IC account. AvaTrade's entity must likewise be taken from the country-specific application. This page does not use a group licence list to imply that every reader receives every protection.
Common mistake: Assuming a regulator named elsewhere on a group website protects the account offered in your country.
Professional tip: Save the dated agreement and regulator entry shown during each application before funding.
Pricing and Account Model#
IC Markets publishes separate Standard and Raw models on its global page. AvaTrade has historically emphasised spread-based retail pricing in relevant services, but the current instrument and entity schedule controls. This review has no live observations and does not claim fixed spreads, lower spreads or a cost winner. Include financing and inactivity terms where applicable.
Example: A lower displayed spread can still produce a higher holding-period cost after commission, financing or currency conversion. Only matched observations can resolve that for your strategy.
Platform and Workflow#
IC Markets suits traders who want to carry MetaTrader or cTrader workflows between brokers and accounts. AvaTrade's differentiation is its own app-led experience plus additional tools or copy routes where offered. Verify those services by entity. A beginner-friendly interface and an automation-ready terminal solve different problems.
Common mistake: Treating more platforms—or a simpler proprietary app—as evidence of better fills.
Beginner Fit#
AvaTrade's guided app and educational positioning may reduce initial setup friction. IC Markets can suit a technically minded beginner who intentionally wants to learn MetaTrader or cTrader. Both still require the learner to understand leverage, stop behaviour and holding costs; platform guidance is not investment guidance.
Active-Trader Fit#
For active manual or automated trading, IC Markets' Raw/platform combinations deserve a direct test. AvaTrade can remain relevant when its proprietary tools improve risk review or mobile operation. Neither platform feature set proves tighter realised spreads or faster execution, and this review did not measure either.
Pair-Specific Decision Example#
An EA developer or cTrader user should investigate IC Markets first. A beginner who values an integrated broker app and guided workflow can investigate AvaTrade first. A copy-trading user must read provider, allocation, fee and loss-control terms rather than treating copying as a lower-risk product.
Risk and Decision Checklist#
- Identify both contracting companies and verify them on official registers.
- Confirm the exact account, platform, symbol and payment route.
- Compare the same trade size and session, including commission, financing, conversion and possible slippage.
- Practise on demo, then use minimum live size if you proceed.
- Test a small withdrawal before increasing capital.
Risk warning: Forex and CFDs are leveraged products that can cause rapid losses. Slippage can occur, stops are not guaranteed, and regulation does not remove market, broker or insolvency risk. Never trade money you cannot afford to lose.

Final Verdict#
Choose IC Markets only if its entity, pricing model and platform solve your specific workflow. Choose AvaTrade only if its corresponding entity and product solve it better. This review does not supply live evidence for a universal winner.
