- IC Markets is the clearer MetaTrader/cTrader candidate
- XTB is differentiated by xStation
- No matched live sample proves a cost winner
- Verify both serving entities

Method and Evidence Limits#
Short answer: This is desk research, not a live-account test. The source snapshot was last verified on 31 July 2026. ForexTradeLab did not open matched accounts, measure spreads, test fills or time withdrawals for this comparison.
Evidence rule: Treat a broker fact as applicable only when the current onboarding flow, client agreement and official entity page all match your country. “From” pricing is not an average. Where this page lacks matched live evidence, it says so instead of ranking the brokers.
Quick Verdict#
IC Markets is the more natural candidate for traders committed to MetaTrader or cTrader and willing to calculate spread-plus-commission costs. XTB deserves the closer look when the proprietary xStation workflow and a simpler platform decision matter more. Neither conclusion survives a change of serving entity or product availability.
Legal Entity and Regulation#
Short answer: Compare the companies that would actually hold the two accounts, not the brands' combined licence lists.
This pair is not a licence-count contest. The IC Markets global page identifies Raw Trading Ltd under the Seychelles FSA, while both groups use different companies for different regions. This page has not independently mapped every XTB entity to every reader country. Record the company in each application, verify it on the regulator's register, and compare the protections in the two actual client agreements.
Common mistake: Assuming a regulator named elsewhere on a group website protects the account offered in your country.
Professional tip: Save the dated agreement and regulator entry shown during each application before funding.
Pricing and Account Model#
The useful contrast is raw-plus-commission versus the pricing displayed for the account offered through XTB's regional flow. IC Markets publishes Standard and Raw variants on its global account page. We do not have a representative live-spread sample for either broker, so this article does not declare a cheaper winner. Compare the same symbol and holding period, including commission, financing and conversion.
Example: A lower displayed spread can still produce a higher holding-period cost after commission, financing or currency conversion. Only matched observations can resolve that for your strategy.
Platform and Workflow#
This decision can be platform-led. IC Markets exposes several established third-party workflows, including MetaTrader and cTrader routes. XTB's distinguishing proposition is xStation. An EA or cTrader user faces migration work at XTB; a new discretionary trader may value one broker-designed interface over choosing among several terminals.
Common mistake: Treating more platforms—or a simpler proprietary app—as evidence of better fills.
Beginner Fit#
For a beginner, xStation may reduce platform-selection friction, but an easier interface does not make leveraged CFDs safer. Compare order-ticket clarity, education, minimum trade size and the ability to export statements. IC Markets can still fit a beginner who is deliberately learning MetaTrader or cTrader, but its account and commission choices require more cost literacy.
Active-Trader Fit#
For active traders, the decisive question is whether an existing MetaTrader/cTrader setup is worth more than xStation's integrated workflow. Test symbol naming, one-click orders, alerts and statement exports. Do not infer execution quality from platform polish or from a minimum-spread advertisement.
Pair-Specific Decision Example#
A trader running a MetaTrader EA should shortlist IC Markets first because changing brokers and platforms together adds operational risk. A discretionary trader who wants one integrated web/mobile environment should test XTB first. In both cases, entity acceptance and a small withdrawal test come before scaling.
Risk and Decision Checklist#
- Identify both contracting companies and verify them on official registers.
- Confirm the exact account, platform, symbol and payment route.
- Compare the same trade size and session, including commission, financing, conversion and possible slippage.
- Practise on demo, then use minimum live size if you proceed.
- Test a small withdrawal before increasing capital.
Risk warning: Forex and CFDs are leveraged products that can cause rapid losses. Slippage can occur, stops are not guaranteed, and regulation does not remove market, broker or insolvency risk. Never trade money you cannot afford to lose.

Final Verdict#
Choose IC Markets only if its entity, pricing model and platform solve your specific workflow. Choose XTB only if its corresponding entity and product solve it better. This review does not supply live evidence for a universal winner.
