Short answer#
Exness and Tickmill are not interchangeable brands. The useful decision is whether the specific legal company, account model and platform offered to your residence fit the way you trade. This article does not declare a universal winner.
Evidence boundary#
Detailed explanation: ForexTradeLab re-checked public entity, account and platform material on 14 August 2026. We did not open or fund accounts, place orders, collect live spreads, measure latency or time withdrawals. “From” prices, automation statements and product counts remain broker-published claims unless an official register or document independently confirms them.
Example: A licence held by one group company does not protect a client contracted to another company.
Common mistake: Treating a minimum spread, marketing execution label or estimated payment window as a measured result.
Professional tip: Save the client agreement, fee schedule and product specification shown during your own signup. Terms displayed there should override a comparison page.
Legal entities and regulation: the pair-specific issue#
Tickmill’s group disclosures identify entities regulated by the FCA in the UK, CySEC in Cyprus, the FSA in Seychelles and the FSCA in South Africa. Exness has a wider retail entity map across several African, Middle Eastern and offshore jurisdictions, while its FCA and CySEC entities do not serve retail clients. Entity breadth is not a safety score: identify the company accepting the application and its complaint route.
Regional caveat: A UK, EEA or South African Tickmill applicant may face local leverage and product rules; an international applicant can be directed to Seychelles. Exness routing is likewise country-specific. Islamic status, copy features, instruments and payment methods should be confirmed after the entity is known.
Use the official Exness regulation page and Tickmill regulation and Tickmill accounts, then verify the company on the relevant regulator’s register. Regulation can provide supervision and complaint routes; it does not guarantee execution quality, withdrawals or investment returns.
Account and pricing models#
The useful distinction is Tickmill’s relatively lean spread-only versus raw-plus-commission choice against Exness’s broader Standard, Pro, Raw Spread and Zero menu. More account labels do not mean lower cost. Compare Tickmill’s current raw-style account with Exness Raw Spread, and calculate Zero separately because its commission varies by instrument. No live cost ranking is supported.
| Cost question | What to record |
|---|---|
| Entry and exit | Average live spread at your trading hours |
| Commission | Both sides, converted to account currency |
| Overnight position | Swap or financing for the exact symbol |
| Funding | Conversion and payment-provider charges |
| Execution | Difference between requested and filled price |
Common mistake: Pairing a commission-free account at one broker with a raw account at the other and comparing only their headline spreads.
Professional tip: Run a small, dated sample on the same instrument, size and session. Your sample is useful for your decision but should not be presented as a universal broker ranking.
Platform and workflow#
This pair is most comparable on MT4 and MT5. Tickmill appeals to traders who want to keep a conventional MetaTrader workflow; Exness adds its own web terminal and mobile app. EA users should test symbol naming, minimum distance rules, contract size and VPS latency under the exact server—not rely on brand-wide execution language.
Example workflow: Before funding, reproduce one complete process on demo: login to the correct server, load the same symbol, size a trade, attach risk controls, export a statement and locate support. Then use minimum live size only if the entity and documents are acceptable.
Where this comparison actually changes the decision#
Tickmill may be the cleaner shortlist choice for a MetaTrader trader who dislikes a large account menu. Exness may suit someone who wants Zero/Pro options or its proprietary workflow. ForexTradeLab did not run EAs or compare fills, so no execution winner is declared.
What remains unverified#
- Average or typical spreads on either broker
- Fill quality, requotes, slippage symmetry or server latency
- Withdrawal approval rates and end-to-end arrival times
- Current eligibility for every country, account, promotion or Islamic status
- Any claim that one broker is safer, cheaper or faster for all clients
Decision checklist#
- Confirm both legal company names and regulators.
- Remove any broker unavailable under an acceptable entity.
- Match equivalent accounts and include every cost component.
- Confirm platform, symbols and automation compatibility.
- Check regional restrictions, payment ownership rules and swap-free fees.
- Test with demo and, if appropriate, minimum live risk.
Verdict#
For lean MetaTrader account structures, the differences above are meaningful; they are not a performance ranking. Choose Exness only when its assigned entity and workflow solve the more important problem. Choose Tickmill only when its entity and distinctive account or platform features do so.

Risk warning: Forex and CFDs are leveraged products and can cause rapid losses. Slippage can occur, stop orders are not guaranteed, and regulation or negative-balance protection does not remove market, counterparty or insolvency risk.

Education-first next step: verify the entity and live terms, practise on demo and calculate risk before funding. Check current Exness terms only if its documented offer fits your country and workflow.
